Sattlerhof
Sattlerhof is located on a steep hill to the south of Gamlitz with a great view of the bewildering landscape of Southern Styria. In this wonderful setting, the estate attends to approximately 40 hectares of vineyards and produce exclusive wines that are known both in Austria and well beyond its borders. We cultivate rather small parcels of land with very steeply inclined, challenging vineyards that are ideally oriented and at the right altitude, with a special emphasis on organic winegrowing, sustainable treatment of our soils and the longevity of our vines. This is our own contribution to a cultural landscape that has been cultivated for several hundreds of years.
Vineyards
Reid Sernauberg
The site Sernauberg (Erste STK Ried®) is a south-east oriented basin with extremly steep hills and a soil made up of a fine sandy layer with gravel on top. Sauvignon blanc and Yellow Muscatel is mostly grown here.
Reid Kranachberg
The site Kranachberg (Große STK Ried®) is situated between the towns of Gamlitz and Leutschach and mainly planted with Sauvignon blanc (approx. 90%). The unique composition of its soils (limey sands with light mica) lends the Sattlerhof wines their unmistakeable spiciness and fruit character.
Ried Pfarrweingarten
The site Pfarrweingarten (Große STK Ried®) is a small, but well-protected southward facing basin exclusivley cultivated by the Sattlerhof. Its soil consists of shell and coral limestone and offers excellent conditions for Burgundies.
From Vine to Bottle
An organic approach and careful attention to the nature are key to our vineyard work. Soft pruning methods, hand-selection of grapes into small crates, cooled transportation to the presshouse, and careful pressing of the must – all this combines to produce excellent taste and perfect quality.
Winemaking
Cultivating wine means to cultivate enjoyment. This is why we go for uncompromising quality in producing our wines. Our noble grapes are grown in different vineyards of our winery, on steeply sloping hills. Winegrowing in touch with nature, accurate handwork in the vineyards, and selective handpicking, all this ensures an excellent aroma and a marked variety-specific character. In 2013, our winery took the turn toward organic viticulture – a logical decision for making even higher quality wines.
The vintner has always been close with his vines. Willi Sattler has been in charge of the vineyards since age 22. His wines have earned him esteem of countless wine lovers and the heed of international media.
The next generation
Tradition and innovation are the roots for the young generation to bring to the table. Andreas and Alexander have gone through excellent schools and training in the viticultural domain. Michaela is responsible for the design of our labels. While youngest son Lukas is good for many a creative input.
